The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, Models 670 and 671, were designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1956 and produced by Herman Miller in the United States.
The design combines molded plywood shells with upholstered leather cushions and a cast aluminum swivel base. The curved plywood forms and generous proportions give the chair its distinctive appearance while providing a relaxed, comfortable seating position. The ottoman completes the set and was designed specifically to accompany the lounge chair.
The Eames Lounge Chair became one of the most recognized furniture designs of the 20th century and remains in production today. Original Herman Miller examples can typically be identified by manufacturer markings found beneath the chair.
