A striking Funktus rocking chair designed by Finnish designer Yrjö Kukkapuro in 1991 and produced by Avarte, Finland.
With its sculpted birch plywood seat and back, black lacquered steel frame, and curved rocking runners, the Funktus has the expressive character typical of Kukkapuro's work while remaining grounded in comfort and function. The blue upholstery adds a subtle contrast to the dark structure and gives the chair a strong presence without overwhelming a room.
Kukkapuro was one of Finland's most distinctive furniture designers, known for his ergonomic approach and experimental use of form and materials. The Funktus is a particularly interesting example from his later work, combining industrial materials with the warmth of shaped wood.
The chair dates to the 1990s and retains its original Avarte manufacturer's label.
